I am *the* worst when it comes to buying new running shoes. Last week I looked at my Asics and couldn't believe it... I had worn a hole in the heel! Hahahaha, not quite that bad, but close. On one shoe I could barely see writing, and the other shoe was worn down a good eighth of an inch more than that!
So online I went and bought two new pairs (both of the pair I had been alternating were totally shot). I sprang for my usual Asics Gel Nimbus, $125, ouch! Then I decided to try Mizuno Wave Rider 12's for $50. That evened things out a bit. An increased cost for me are Arch Molds inserts; they run about $35, but they last a long time. They are a god send for arches like mine. For the wet footprint test, I show a circle for my heel, and then the ball of my foot and my toes. My arches are phenomenal! Arch Molds to the rescue...
So I hit the pavement in the Mizuno's Thursday night, and they were awesome. I really like them. Six and a half miles, and no issues at all. On Sunday I ran 9 miles in the Asics and came away with a blister! Huh, I've run in these shoes forever and never had a blister... the new model definitely has a tight heel cup, and slightly narrower toe box. So my $125 shoes gave me blisters, and the $50 ones (runningwarehouse.com) were a smooth ride... go figure!
Oh, and on Saturday I rode 25 miles, with a hangover. Yes, I am a triathlete in training, but I still like to have fun!
